Reviews of the Best Wheatgrass Juicers, Manual and Electric

Wheatgrass started as a fad really but proved to be a long-term health booster and is staying around. More and more places are beginning to have wheatgrass, even Jamba Juice has live wheatgrass growing in its stores to make its wheatgrass shot.

Now the importance of getting a juicer to consume wheatgrass is obvious. Trying to eat wheatgrass alone tastes, well, like grass! So do your taste buds a favor and juice your wheatgrass.

Wheatgrass is approximately 70% Chlorophyll which is extremely beneficial to our blood because it has an almost identical structure to our red blood cells. This substance is the reason green vegetables are green and so if you need to “add greens to your diet” this is your ticket, it is one of the highest chlorophyll content foods out there.

Wheatgrass and trace minerals

Trace minerals are minerals that you body needs but only in very small amounts. The problem with this is that very few foods contain trace minerals. So, if you juice and take one shot of wheatgrass you may be getting more minerals from that than you have in the past month. Your body will appreciate the high-dosage of nutrition as you will see for yourself with more energy and vitality.

Detoxification

Toxins are everywhere in the world today. If you’ve ever McDonalds, been around chemicals in a pool, had anesthesia, or have been exposed to other toxic elements, you can benefit from wheatgrass’s detoxifying properties. It helps to relieve the liver and clean out your blood. This is because of the plant’s beneficial enzymes which reduces the toxicity of our bodies.

Be ready for side effects

As an analogy, think about washing the dishes. When you start to scrub the dirty pans and plates, there are clumps of that come off—this is similar to what will be happening with your body when you take what grass.

The power of the plant will be obvious when you when your body begins to go a little off. You may experience the runs, get nausea or get a headache. This is normal.

If you want to avoid these side effects the best practice is to take the wheatgrass juice in very low quantities. You can try starting off with just 1 or 2 oz of a wheatgrass shot 1 hour after eating a meal. Do not go over 3 oz at a time as a beginner because you will be overpowering your body.

The Juicers revealed

Manual Wheat Grass Juicers

These juicers are perfect if you are looking for an inexpensive single-purpose awesome wheatgrass juicer.

Lexen Healthy Manual Wheatgrass Juicer

Give Wheatgrass juicing a try for under $40—That is the highlight of this juicer. It can be taken on the road with no electricity, and will give you a much higher yield than $150 Centrifugal juicers on wheatgrass.

The Lexen also juices harder veggies such as carrots, you just have to put a bit more effort into it, but with the built-in clamp it is pretty easy. One of the only reasons to not get this juicer is if you would prefer an electric one, which is understandable, I prefer electric myself. However, it could be something to consider, if you’re changing your lifestyle with juicing, why not put in there the additional hand exercise while you’re at it? It could save you $100-$500 depending on which electric juicer you would buy instead.

Z-Star Manual Juicer (Z-510)

The Z-star is about 3 times more expensive than the Lexen, but it is worth it if you’re willing to pay more. (At the same time, you may consider an automatic electric juicer instead if you’re already going to pay more).

The Z-Star has a huge advantage by being made by Tribest. The company is one of the best in the juicing industry and has great customer service, they will honor the 1-year warranty in a heartbeat. This juicer is also spectacular at making even peanut butter with its special settings.

If you are planning to juice wheatgrass as well as hard vegetables this is a perfect juicer because you can handle the veggies with elbow grease on the crank. It doesn’t take a lot of effort, but you can manage to get more force than an electrical juicer that cannot adjust to what it is juicing—other juicers have only an on and off switch.

Electric Wheatgrass juicers

Let’s face it, we are all accustomed to having things automatic—you can move across the country by just pressing the gas on a car, you can hear up all of your food with the touch of a button on a microwave, you can see your family in different cities through the internet in a second. We have things easy. That’s the beauty of electric juicers, they are simply easy. Juicing wheatgrass is no exception to that rule.

Green Power KPE1304 Twin Gear Juicer

It is barely fair to compare this model (costs approximately $400) to the manual wheatgrass juicers. This model will give the highest yield on wheatgrass or wheatgrass and carrots, etc. due to it’s dual gear design. It is also spectacular on all leafy greens. The pulp on this machine comes out extremely dry. If you use another juicer already you can take the pulp from the other machine, put it through here and get another 10% of the juice out.

The cleanup is a bit longer than on the other juicers, but still can be done in about 5 minutes. The other downside is the fact that it does require effort to push the veggies down into the chute sometimes, so if even effort downwards is a problem, go with a vertical single auger juicer such as the Omega VRT which pretty much sucks in the produce into the chute.

If you get this juicer it may cost more but it also has a 10 year warranty on the motor and a 5 year warranty on the parts. So it may cost 4 times more than a manual wheatgrass juicer but it also will last you minimally 5 years (it lasts more than that usually, but that is the guarantee of the manufacturer). So let’s say it’ll be $80 a year but if you are a regular juicer you will actually be saving money because you will not have to buy $5 juices at the store, but can make your own for the much cheaper price of produce.

Samson Advanced Wheatgrass Juicer 9005 (Multi-Purpose)

This badboy has a 15 year warranty and costs only about $260. It is really one of the best deals that you can find on a dedicated, heavy duty electric wheatgrass juicer.

The yield is really comparable to a double auger juicer such as the KPE above, for less cost. This model is also much easier and faster to clean. The only advantage other than the cost and the warranty when compared to Dual Gear juicers is the RPM. This model has an RPM of 80, while the KPE has an RPM of 120. Now, a lower RPM is always going to be better because it keeps the oxidation low and the nutritious value up—but at a such a low RPM will it really make a difference? Probably not because the heat generated is so insignificant that it is unlikely any nutrition is lost in either case. Either way, some say it is better safe than sorry and recommend sticking to the 80 RPM.

Electric Wheatgrass Juicers Juice Off

Watch these last two juicers go head-to-head and see the difference in yield, pulp and ease of use between the Green Power KPE and the Samson Wheatgrass juicer

The only difference between the Samson 9003 (Ivory), the Samson 9004 (White), the Samson 9005 (Black), and the Samson 9006 (Chrome), is the color and you will pay about $30 more for the Chrome plating.
